Throughout the British Isles, there are many towns such as Ramsgate. Towns steeped in history, in communities, in adventure, where every street and open space has a story to tell, and a rich heritage to explore. This is the story of Ramsgate: an English coastal town that has experienced good times and bad, through peace and war, through boom and bust. In this book, the town's busy commercial centre, seafront and architecture are all captured with atmospheric scenes from days gone by, contrasted with the same images as they appear today, powerfully showing us in an instant how a century or more of time has changed the area, for better or for worse. This book also examines a lost Ramsgate, such as entire streets which are no longer here, as well as going underground, exploring some scenes from a hidden Ramsgate. We then take a look at some of the surrounding towns and villages which make up the Isle of Thanet. This book will not only provide an insight of how Ramsgate used to be, but also awaken nostalgic memories of a forgotten time whilst celebrating the improvements that have since taken place to this wonderful seaside town.
