Collinwood in the middle of the Nineteenth Century is a lonely and terrible place. The vast estate is almost empty, its sons all gone. The only person left to look after the increasingly erratic Edith Collins is her miserable daughter Judith. But Judith has a secret hope of romance - of dancing in a beautiful ballgown with a dashing stranger.
