This book is based primarily upon, and mainly consists of, matter contained in articles Roosevelt wrote in the Metropolitan Magazine. The principles set forth in this book are simply the principles of true Americanism within and without our own borders, the principles which, according to his abilities, he preached and, according to his abilities, practiced for thirty-five years since he first began to take an active interest in American history and American political life.
