The MacTaggart children - Angus, Giles and Maggie - arrive on Scotland's island of Skerra to stay in Kennevara, their Aunt Catriona's seaside guesthouse. They find her distressed by her failing bed-and-breakfast business. Her bank is threatening to repossess Kennevara unless she pays the next installment on her loan. A medical emergency whisks her away to the mainland, leaving the children to fend for themselves.
