Social problems are becoming more and more global in their scope. A global (or cross-cultural) perspective is essential to a modern day sociological understanding of today's problems. In contrast with other peoples around the world, Americans tend to be very individualistic in their thinking. A comparative approach will introduce today's students to solutions being tried in other countries around the globe that may (or may not) be relevant to social problems in the United States.
