Whistle Up a Wind tells the story of a single father who falls victim to organized crime as a result of his gambling addiction. In order to pay off the debt, Colin McBride allows his boat to be used in a smuggling operation that endangers his children's lives. When 11-year-old Brianna and 8-year-old Joey are held hostage by the criminals, McBride accepts help from artist Ken Porter and his friends who live in the beautiful LaHave area of the South Shore. But once the horror of the smugglers' cargo becomes known, it seems certain that no witnesses, not even the children, will be left alive.
