With its pan-Caribbean approach, this text has been written to help the student with the Common Entrance Examination. It is expected that students have followed the Social Studies syllabus from infant level to Standard Five level. Each unit gives a summary of the major points for each content area, together with exercises, generally in the form of a multiple-choice test. This exercise tests the overall knowledge of the topic which a student should have, not merely knowledge of the revision summary. In the final section of the book there are summary tests, drawing on material from all the units. Answers for the multiple-choice questions have been printed in the centre of the book, so that they can be removed from students' books at the teacher's discretion. Both the summaries and the tests are relevant for pupils in all parts of the Caribbean region. The book should prepare students for the next level of their education, the Secondary level. The "Macmillan Caribbean Junior Social Studies Atlas" is recommended for use with each topic where appropriate.
