The book is a comprehensive analysis of the pervasive nature of agrarian crisis in India. Farmers' suicides and rural distress have emerged as symptomatic of deeper maladies that afflict Indian agriculture and the failure of a public support system. Bringing together both macro and micro dimensions, this study provides a critical overview of emergent agrarian conditions across India, with as well as in depth case studies of five states - Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Punjab.
