Ten Kids and a Teacher, Memories from a One Room School
You must be kidding. Are these true stories? No, we aren't kidding, and yes these are true stories. They are very vivid in the minds of the kids who, of necessity, and by choice, learned to read, write, and do 'rithmetic in a one-room, one-teacher school in East Texas in the nineteen-forties. The hogs were a nuisance, the armadillo frightening, the spring water refreshing, and the outhouses stinky, but all were elements of our lives. We were a family, and as is true in any family, we worked together, played together, loved and occasionally hated one another. Ten Kids and a Teacher is our story.
