Liisa Rasimus
Inspired by a French friend, Liisa Rasimus decided to write a book about Finnish cuisine and the Finnish way of life; how food plays a natural part in differing life situations from everyday routine to festive occasions. We go to the summer cottage to smoke fish, heat the sauna, cook crayfish and pick wild berries in the company of a bear. We visit the forest in autumn to gather wild mushrooms and we taste fish delicacies at the Baltic herring market. With the baking of gingerbread biscuits and the preparation of fresh salted salmon, we participate in Christmas traditions. We experience winter events by spending New Year’s Eve on an icebreaker, skiing on the sparkling snow and enjoying winter swimming through a hole in the ice. We travel around Finland in different seasons of the year and feast on the specialities of Helsinki as well as Lapland, the latter under the midnight sun. Our tasty journey is seasoned with childhood memories.
Throughout her life, Liisa Rasimus, a freelance food culture editor and rôtisseur, has been passionately interested in the process of cooking food and the art of serving it. She writes on food for various newspapers.
