Years after suffering a terrible personal loss, former professional dancer Santiago leads an empty life and has even lost the will to live. Day in and day out he goes to a dance club in the evening, but only to listen to the melancholic music, for he dances no more.
One evening a young girl appears. She seems out of place. He asks for a dance and she reluctantly accepts. Holding her in his arms for only a couple of minutes, he feels again a flame which he thought dead. And so he takes her in as his pupil.
The novel traces Santiago’s inner journey as he rediscovers love through dance. But in the end, can either of them survive the secrets of the double life she leads?
