This book examines the roles of Latin American women during the 19th through mid-20th centuries and their participation in national movements. It discusses the conflict between the traditional female roles at home and on the public stage. Themes range from the position of women in the colonial Andean societies, during several 19th-century wars, educational movements in late-19th-century Uruguay, suffragette movements in Chile and Mexico, to the Peronist movement.
