Major John L. Plaster, the author of Paladin's best-selling The Ultimate Sniper, served three tours in the top-secret unconventional warfare group, SOG. After retiring from the military, he combined what he'd learned of stealth, stalking and camouflage with his post-war experiences as a competitive shooter to co-found a Reserve Component sniper training program, which quickly became a major national school.
