We are living in the information society, which has only just taken its first steps. What kind of changes and challenges are we facing due to the ongoing development of the information society? This book provides perspectives on the debate on where the information age is headed and what can be done to better understand and plan it. The main themes include areas such as education, working life and organisational structures and the role of technology in the Iinformation Society. The articles are based on presentations given by the authors at the 3rd conference of Information Research Programme and at the French-Finnish Information Society seminar, both of which were held in Tampere, Finland, in the autumn of 2001. The aim of this book is through the variety of articles to demonstrate how the information society is developing in different sectors of our everyday life.
