Old Hyatt Morgan and his two sons, along with Jeb McCarty, Epifanio Garcia and six vaqueros, ran the huge Morgan spread. There had not been a woman on the ranch for more than twenty years when Jane Adair agreed to accompany the Morgans on a cattle drive. Jeb McCarty had said that taking a woman on a cattle drive was bad luck, and sure enough, on the first night out, Jane Adair and young Ward Morgan were kidnapped by a band of Mexican marauders. That same band of raiders stampeded the Morgan herd of seven hundred head of cattle. Now there would be a savage battle as the guns of Mexico were pitted against the guns of Arizona.
