Orlon the Master Scientist and illegitimate ruler of Halcia forces Nid, an orphaned boy, into a prison camp. To avoid becoming a test subject in any experiments, Nid escapes to Earth through a space tunnel. However, Orlon uses his latest invention to turn him into a ball in the process. The antidote to reverse the effects exists in the Great Tome, an ancient book hidden deep in Orlon's compound. If Nid doesn't find it, he may never know life as a normal boy again. When Nid enters Earth's atmosphere, he lands in the small town of Humsville, and into the lives of sixth graders Neon Nelson and Kizzy Perez. After learning of his past, they return with him to Halcia in hopes of finding the Great Tome, and making it back to Earth before dinner. Their plans prove easier said than done. Not even in their wildest dreams could they have imagined the surprises, mysteries, and dangers awaiting them in an unknown world. Their adventures force them to put into action everything they learned along the way about friendship, trust, and survival. In order to find the Great Tome they must work together. If they don't, Orlon will destroy them all.
