Bullying, or mobbing as it is called in the European literature is a longstanding
workplace safety and performance issue. This behaviour can have
adverse effects for individuals, including both the perpetrator and the victim,
as well as their families, the organisation, and ultimately the wider society.
Bullying may not be evenly distributed across industry. The nature of people
and industries at risk is explored in this book. Bullying is perceived in a wide
range of circumstances, some of which go beyond the common but simple
image of an aggressive individual using words or actions in an abusive way. A
model of bullying is provided that can assist researchers, managers and
human resource practitioners to better understand, prevent, and address this
negative workplace behaviour. Findings can also help organisations and
individuals identify and eradicate workplace bullying by creating environments
based on dignity and respect for all.
