Crossing Boundaries for Learning – through Technology and Human Efforts
Edited by Hannele Niemi, Jari Multisilta and Erika Löfström

This newly published book is based on selected papers presented at the 2013 annual conference of the Teacher Education Policy in Europe (TEPE) network at the University of Helsinki.

The book presents how many prior boundaries between formal and non-formal learning sites are in the process of breaking down. Learning spaces are becoming more overlapping, seamless, joined, and blended. Technology creates new practices in schools. Research shows how technology can be used to facilitate personalized learning and inclusion in education, as well as in partnerships between schools, homes, and the wider community.

The book articles emphasise how technology can be an important tool in learning, but without other educationally supportive structures and equal opportunities for a good education, technology alone cannot solve problems or provide the necessary skills for the future.

Learning continues throughout life, and a school’s task is to provide learners with the skills and competences with which they can continue their learning in different phases of their lives.
