Stadt und Erinnerungskultur
In Germany, a variety of museums, archives and memorial sites remind of history. The most common topics are the Nazi crimes, the Second World War and the division of Germany and how to overcome it. These institutions, which are so important for democracy and democracy education, are supported by local, state or federal government. However, their roots often lie in civic engagement. The essays in this volume present some of these memorial sites and provide insights into their history, development, educational and curatorial concepts and their reception. In addition, the history of democracy as part of the culture of remembrance in Germany is also addressed on the basis of selected personalities and events.
