On impulse, Jack joins a creative writing class for something to do. He is a bit flippant with the tutor, and is told to 'write something funny' for his first homework. The class like it, and as he adds other ideas during the course, he finds it gradually turning it into a comic novel. He fancies Janice, a beautiful classmate, and seeking to become involved with her, makes her the book's heroine. Janice is the girl friend of the class tutor, so things get a touch tricky.
