In 1905 Edwin Arnold created a character that many feel changed the courseof Science Fiction and that character's name was Lt. Gullivar Jones. Though itsreception was lukewarm at the time of its publication, Arnold's tale ofGullivar's journey to mars and falling in love with a Martian princess isthought by many to have inspired the Martian tales of Edgar Rice Burroughs,written some six years later. Dynamite Entertainment is proud to bring thesecharacters together, telling the story of their first meeting!
The time is post Civil War America. Lt. Gullivar Jones, a distinguished Navyofficer, is tired of not receiving the promotion he feels he deserves anddesperately needs to be able to marry his fiance. While sulking through thestreets of New York, Gullivar encounters an aged man and a strange carpet thatappears to have originated in the far east. Little does he know that this carpetwill become the vehicle that will transport him not only through space but timeas well, as he is hurtled into the past, present, and future of John Carter'sBarsoom. In the past, Gullivar meets the beautiful Princess Heru, a mysteriousRed Woman whose secrets lead him directly to Barsoom's present, where he forgesan uneasy alliance with the Warlord of Mars John Carter and his beloved wifeDejah Thoris, all before hurtling into the future where Barsoom faces a threatunlike any it has known before!
