Professional Development and Management for Therapists - An Introduction
With changes taking place within the NHS, the management structure within each hospital and Trust is very different. Graduating therapy students now enter a workplace where terms and conditions vary, future career paths are not clearly mapped out and a job is not guaranteed for life. This text aims to identify and clarify management and career issues that impact on the working lives of health therapy staff. It describes the health care business as a whole (the structure and organization of the NHS) and summarizes relevant legislation and how it impacts on the workforce. It includes sections on purchaser and provider roles, models for organizing therapy services, the recruitment process, salaries and pensions, accountability, conditions of employment, mentorship, reflective practice and professional standards of practice.
