Most available books related to nanomaterials focus on the either the Physics or Chemistry aspects, or on particular application(s). However, this field is inherently multi-disciplinary, allowing future professionals to comfortably cut across many areas. This book, or a formal course built around this book, can provide that holistic understanding. Section I provides the background perspective. Section II covers the science and engineering of structure, properties, synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials. Section III provides detailed discussions of industrial applications including where how and why nanomaterials can be used. Industrial sectors addressed include energy, environment, health care, infrastructure, transportation and defense. Section IV discusses societal issues (health, safety, business and public policies, ethical considerations etc.) related to advances in nanotechnology. Sample questions and numerical problems are provided for each topic.
