Jean Baptiste Poquelin who is better known by his stage name Moliere was a 17th century French author known for his comedy. After abandoning a law career Moliere began acting, directing and writing plays in Paris and the surrounding area. The scathing satire in his plays made him several important enemies. The Prologue begins with Flora and her followers calling to Venus to come and celebrate King Louis XIV victory. In Act One Psyche's sisters try to attract her recent suitors. A messenger informs Psyche's sisters that she must be sacrificed on the mountaintop and devoured by a monster. Her sisters are pleased with this news. Psyche accepts her fate but her suitors try and save her. By the third Act Cupid has fallen for Psyche.
