Dugald Mitchell's Tarbert Past and Present (written in the late 19th century!) is a marvellous account of a community at the height of the fishing
boom. Written with love and affection it is a minor classic of local history. Far less well known is his 1908 book Tarbert: Picture and Story
which is now reprinted professionally for the first time. Mythology, history, contemporary stories all weave together into another small classic.
This facsimile edition reproduces the many unique plates of the town and its people and also the adverts at the end in its first professional
edition since publication.
If you live in or around Tarbert, or simply know and love the town then this is a book you must have.
