This is a book with a theme: the Italian experience in Canada. The title is significant, ricordi: each story springs from something remembered or tries to come to grips with it. What binds all the 14 writers represented is a common sensibility as artists, perhaps also the same feeling for roots, identity and memory. A look at the biographical notes reveals that eleven of the 14 contributors are young, new writers, several publishing their first story. That they draw inspiration from the same well of emotion as the older writers augurs a prolific future for the genre.
