Nikolai Karlovich Metner (1880–1951), the Russian composer and pianist, whose creation is connected mainly with chamber genres (besides 3 Concertos for piano and orchestra). Together with Sergei Rakhmaninov and Alexander Skriabin Nikolai Metner is considered to be the most prominent master of the Russian piano music during the 20th century beginning. Romantic musical features are combined with utterly concentrated intellectual element in Metner's creation. Sonatas and Tales became the significant genres in Metner's piano sphere. That was the composer himself to have established tale as the musical genre. Some tales have programmatic headings, which are casted by literature or dramatic compositions from time to time.
