World Scenography 1975-1990 is the first volume in a series of large-format, lavishly illustrated books documenting and contextualising significant contemporary theatrical design worldwide.
This volume presents 430 significant designs from 61 countries around the globe. Four years in the making and with contributions from hundreds of designers from over seventy countries, the book sets out to document the designs that made a difference, designs of influence, designs that mattered.
Like all performance-based art, stage design is ephemeral. If it is not recorded, it disappears. And if the designs are not contextualized through scholarship, their meanings will become obscure. World Scenography provides an outstanding visual and contextual record of the art of designing for the stage.
The World Scenography series is an official project of OISTAT, the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians.
World Scenography 1975-1990 received the 2014 Golden Pen Award presented by USITT (United States Institute for Theatre Technology) to an 'outstanding, major, recent publication in the field of design and production for the performing arts'.
