Button, the subject of "The Cat in the No-Pet Family," was a kitten adopted by an American military family in Japan in the 1980's.  Button and her family traveled around the globe together, and she found adventure in every home she shared with her owners.  She was on the verge of death several times due to illness or injury, and loved hunting all sorts of animals, much to her owners dismay.  Author Rita A.R. McDonald deftly weaves the dynamics of her human family into the tale by establishing vivid personalities.  Button's life is the common thread linking their stories.
