This book examines changing perceptions and methods of horsemanship in eighteenth and nineteenth century literature alongside emerging animal rights discourses. In doing so, it approaches the treatment of animals and animal wellbeing alongside understandings of historical agency and modernization, as well as shifting practices in animal-human interaction.
