There are also summary boxes to aid revision. This book, aimed at lower attainers, analyzes how the American West was settled and developed between 1840 and 1895. Coverage includes the way of life of the Plains Indians, the reasons why people went West, the role of the railways, the development of farming and ranches, the conflict between ranchers and homesteaders, the conflict between white Americans and Plains Indians, and the policies of the American government. There is also a core edition of the pupil's book, which is aimed at higher attainers and has a more complex text.
