Nuevas voces gives voice to writers from Latin America and Spain who are currently outside the canon. Some have gained international recognition, while some are less well-known. This collection of compelling short stories all deal with personal relations in some manner. This unifying, underlying theme in the stories facilitates conversation and class discussion.

The stories are framed with extensive pedagogical support. Each story begins with a brief author biography, a photograph of the author, and a personal interview to give the student a context for the story.
