Altogether, the collection features 149 individual world maps, of which nine are large wall maps, and 18 are smaller printed maps, so called miniature scale maps. Moreover, the collection includes 22 atlases and other rare books on cosmography, cartography, and navigation containing world maps.

The world maps date from the first printed world map in 1477 to the late nineteenth century. The collection also features a highly significant section of the earliest printed world maps and atlases from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. World maps from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are also magnificently represented. Rarities in the collection include five incunables, that is, world maps printed before 1500.
