Comparisons are an indispensable tool for a speaker to give weight to his words. This volume of the Amsterdam edition of the Latin texts of Erasmus offers a critical edition of the Latin text of the Parabolae, or similes, and the Praise of Marriage. The text is accompanied by an introduction and commentary in which the linguistic, philological, theological and historical background of the text is discussed, and Erasmus’ sources are identified.
