The Imaginers tells the story of two penniless musicians who live in Granada, and their adventures as they attempt to find the remains of the poet Lorca who was murdered by Franco's death squads. MacQuillan is the elder and has been in Granada many years getting inspired by this story through his dealings with Joe Strummer, who in turn inspires his younger counterpart Wolfe as he continues his wayward spiral through life. The old barrio of Granada, The Albaycin, plays home to the main part of the book and all the characters that surround them, until their luck changes and they embark on their adventures through Spain. Years before, MacQuillan learned his ways from Koetxe, his mentor and oldest friend who, by fortune alone, is someone that Wolfe is destined to meet. There are elements of farce and comedy, suspense and tragedy, adventure and music throughout the story as well as the investigation of the imagination where the book derives its title. The Imaginers is a contemporary work of fiction that has no intention of being sold in airports.
