Studies in Fronto and his Age
Originally published in 1911, this book was the fifth volume in the Girton College Studies series. It provides a highly informative analysis of Marcus Cornelius Fronto's prominent and varied role in Roman society, seeking to counteract some of the damage inflicted on his critical reputation during the hundred years preceding publication. Whilst discussion of Fronto's key influence in relation to Latin literature, grammar and rhetoric lies at the core of the text, there are also notable chapters on aspects of his character and key relationships with figures such as Marcus Aurelius. An appendix on African Latinity illustrated by selections from the correspondence of Fronto and an extensive bibliography are also included. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in Latin and the culture of Ancient Rome.
