Cyprus Under the Turks, 1571-1878
Based on the archives of the English Consulate in Cyprus, this book sheds light on the island's history during the period of Ottoman Turkish rule. Sir Harry Luke (1884-1969), author of many books, especially on the Mediterranean and Middle East, began his long and distinguished career in the Colonial Service in 1908 and moved on to Cyprus in 1911, where he served, with a break for war service, until 1919. He was later Lieut-Governor of Malta 1930-38, and Governor of Fiji and High Commissioner for the Western Pacific 1938-42.
