1921. American poet, biographer and critic. She was deeply interested in and influenced by the Imagist movement, led by Ezra Pound. While Lowell's poetry was not widely recognized during her lifetime, she did write more than 650 poems, and is now acknowledged as the first American woman poet to see herself as part of a feminine literary tradition, reflected in poems such as The Sisters. Legends is a volume of adaptations of myths and legends, containing eleven longer poems.
