Deluxe 3CD set - the complete 1955 crescendo performances plus 18 rare bonus tracks. Includes a 20-page booklet, 59 tracks in total - over 3 hours playing time.
The complete original two-volume album Louis Armstrong at the Crescendo (Decca DL 8168/69) plus all other existing material from that evening's sets. The 1955 All Stars included well known figures such as trombonist Trummy Young, clarinettist Barney Bigard, and pianist Billy Kyle. As a bonus, we have added various broadcast performances by the exact same formation of the All Stars captured live at the Basin Street Club in New York the previous year, as well as three rarities: two film soundtrack songs taped in Copenhagen in 1959, and a 1956 commercial spot which presents Louis promoting a brand of beer.
"Satch is in exciting form, assisted by trombonist Trummy Young and clarinetist Barney Bigard. The session is quite spirited and lively, with Armstrong enthusiastically leading his All-Stars through timeworn but fresh Dixieland standards." - Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
