This thematic and dialogic publication is a cooperative step and an introduction to wider, deeper and even more motivated, specific discussion and development work in the endless field of teacher education in the European Union, as well as elsewhere. In line with the European Commission's recent wishes, all teacher educators are called upon to create and confirm cruciel common principles covering more advanced educational skills and key competencies for the future.
What might be the future challenges facing European teaching, teacher education and its future qualitative reforms? This thematically structured publication is a collection of different contributions that deal with these questions and topics related to them. The authors discuss the European challenges for teacher education, the heritage of European civilisation and democracy in education, future language education and the vital but unresolved question of entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial or enterprising teaching and learning. One of the topics is also the Finnish teacher-education system which is discussed from a national perspective. To put it briefly, the authors of Facing the Future do not want to give any final word on the issues and challenges discussed here.
This thematic and dialogic publication is rather a cooperative step and an introduction to wider, deeper and - as we teacher educators would have it - even more motivated, specific discussion and development work in the endless field of teacher education in the European Union, as well as elsewhere.
