In a statement, the Altenberg Ecumenical Circle of Discussions advocates that the "heretic" Martin Luther is officially recognized in the Catholic Church as the "witness of Jesus Christ" and that the Pope is no longer recognized in the Evangelical Church as an "Antichrist", but as a "dear brother in Christ". Contributions by well-known authors justify this demand for the commemoration year 2021. The book is rounded off with a suggestion for an official declaration of both churches and elements for a reconciliation service.
