In Place of Memory raises questions about migration, identity and place in a changing Sweden. Swedish American photographer Linda Maria Thompson returned to the village of her childhood summers, and began looking for traces of loss and memory but she found something much more.

In Place of Memory is photographed during a time when Sweden is grappling with its identity as a safe haven for the world s refugees and the rise of xenophobic political parties on the far right. Much like the rest of Europe, Sweden is going through a search for identity in a changing social landscape. As a migrant herself, this work explores themes of identity and place on both a personal and political scale.
