Part I (Understanding Sex Offenders and Sex Offenses) provides an overview of offenders, offenses, and societal responses to give the reader a foundational understanding of the subject. This section also discusses the typology of sex offenders and covers the political and legislative issues involved. Part II (Assessing and Treating Sex Offenders) examines the different assessment tools and treatment programs that are currently available and discusses their effectiveness. The final part (Legislating Sex Offenders and Sex Offenses) discusses the rapidly changing laws and policies currently in place as well as future laws and policies on the horizon.
