Martin, a refugee from Zimbabwe, finds himself homeless on the streets of Johannesburg, where he discovers that survival is team work. He is befriended by Sister Louisa, an Irish nun, who takes him with her to England.
Martin never forgets his friends on the streets and the events that shaped him. When a little African girl named Rachel goes missing in London, he becomes suspicious. Along with his friend Jenny, also a refugee from Zimbabwe, Martin rescues Rachel and tracks down the gang of human smugglers that kidnapped her.
This interracial novel points out the troubles faced by refugees as well as the evils of human trafficking, which both displace people from their culture. The Refugees and the Rescue offers a touching tribute to all those forced out of their homes around the world.
