The French science expedition led by Captain Freycinet was the most comprehensive visit by Westerners to Micronesia at the time. The original twelve-volume official report includes information about the islands up to 1819: their history, anthropology, sociology, native customs, industry, commerce, linguistics, flora and fauna.
