Discovering American History in England presents twelve chapters which look variously at Colonial Settlers in the New World, the birth of American Independence, military connections, politicians, American ladies in England, artists, musicians, poets and writers. Each section contains illustrated entries for key people, how they relate to American history and why they are important, together with a list of places connected to the person that can be visited. These places are listed in the Gazetteer which follows. Colour maps and special highlighted spreads also feature information on major biuildings and cities with notable conections to America, such as St Paul's Cathedral in London, Bristol, Cambridge and Plymouth. AUTHOR: Catherine Leitch has led an itinerant life. Born in the US, she has lived for five ears in Germany and fourteen in England. Always interested in studying the past and its connections with the present, she earned a Masters degree in history and taught in the US.
