This Appendix provides an enlarged explanation of the background to Imperial Cauldron for readers of the three main volumes. It aims at clarifying certain aspects of life at court in Vienna in the 19th century.
There is a brief account of the history and politics of the Balkan region. There is an analysis of how the Mayerling myth grew and how it has played a part in shaping today’s view of the events of the Crown Prince’s suicide. There is a detailed timeline and a list of all the characters who appear in the main text, explaining who each one was. Family trees are also included.
