Memoirs of Count Lavalette
1894. This volume contains the autobiographical account of Count Lavalette, adjutant and private secretary to Napoleon and Postmaster General under the Empire. It was his resolution that this work not appear during his life. Not that he wished to escape criticism; but because a feeling which honorable minds alone can appreciate makes it a duty for him to occupy the public attention no longer with himself. His unfortunate celebrity was dearly bought, and he wants rest rather than pity.
