Primarily meant to host studies about the drama of the English - and European - Renaissance, as well as the culture in which it is rooted, the -THETA- series aims to be a forum for exchange and debate.
The fifteen essays in the present volume address a variety of forms and strategies of the conventional elements at work in the late C15 and C16 corpus of English plays. Known to be an essential factor in the writing proper - be it of the dramatic or the performance text - convention may work in paradoxical ways, even affecting play reception in the short or in the long term, to the point of altering its aesthetic features and ideological impact."
