Engineering science emphasizes the principles of science in such a way that they are useful for analyzing engineering problems. In this regard, the background of engineering mechanics and thermodynamics is considered essential for all engineers.
This introductory textbook covers the fundamentals of engineering mechanics (solid mechanics and the fluid mechanics) and thermodynamics. The solid mechanics (Chapters 2 to 13) cover the basic topics on static, dynamics and strength of materials, the fluid mechanics (Chapters 14 to 19) deal with elementary aspects of fluid at rest and in motion, while Chapters 20 to 23 discuss the thermodynamic principles.
The contents have been arranged to meet the requirements of undergraduate engineering students preparing for examinations conducted by universities and professional societies such as the Institution of Engineers (India). Numerous solved examples have also been provided to clarify various topics discussed in the book.
